This past January, 2018, I had the pleasure of joining my dear friends Bobbi Jo Paidel and Philip Haley in Jaipur, India, to make a short film about their non-profit Tribe of Lambs, an ethical jewellery company that supports HIV positive children in India. Over four crazy days the three of us (and all my film gear) piled onto one scooter and zig zagged down narrow alleys in search of elusive silver merchants, and spent long, wonderful afternoons playing with the kids at the Ray’s Home for HIV Positive Children. I was shocked to learn that government orphanages in India do not accept HIV+ children, giving the children, who are often orphaned, few options other than begging and prostitution. Ray’s Home gives these kids a chance at life. Since Bobbi & Phil first came to Jaipur two years ago and learned about the situation of HIV+ children, they have partnered with Ray’s and have been contributing 100% of their profits to provide essentials to these children such as housing, food, school tuition, and medication.
It was an honour to get a window into the valuable work they’re doing, and to use my craft to contribute to their cause. Tribe is currently using the video to raise awareness and 20K to help them grow their organization and provide long-term, sustainable support to these children.
